Swearing
OK so I was sitting in the middle of writing class listening to all of these songs with a lot of swearing in them when I thought why. Why on earth do these famous people all see to believe that they must swear. Why does anyone think they must swear? Why do it? What's the point? I'd like your comments on this one guys. Personally, I don't see a reason why people should. And another thing!
What makes swearing wrong? Who said they were bad words? Who are they to decide? What makes words right or wrong? Is it their definition? Because a lot of swear words have synonims with the same meaning that we use as a replacement. Why do we feel the need to say words we know we're not supposed to? Oh man. Hurry up and comment will you!

I dont think it is AT ALL nesessary, it is rude, its uncourteous, rough, and alot of people dont like it. And i have no idea why "famous" people swear...why do the "regular" people swear? and there is no point, someone just probably said f*** one day in place of sex and people kept saying it and one day some guy was like "that isnt holy!!!" or something.
that's the same thing I asked you! What drives people to think it's nessisary to swear?
Humans have a lot of big problems. One is trying to express ourselves.
You know sometimes when you get mad/sad/happy, you just don't know what to say at all. You could be shocked or you could just not know waht you were feeling. Humans try and try to express their true feelings, and sometimes we invent words to help us along the way.
As for famous people swearing, how many words do you know that can transfer accross languages without being misinterperted? I certainly don't know very many, and those I do know are swear words.
Do you remember the stage you went (slash are going) through when every second word you said was "like"? Why do you think you said that? What is the difference between "like" and "f***"? Sure, you may say that "like" never offended anyone, but there has to be some sort of deeper meaning too, right?
Anybody see what I'm trying to say?
I certainly dont, there are other ways to communicate your feelings, besides swearing. Now that i think about it, it doesnt matter how they were invented or who says them or whatever, its still rude, really pointless and unessesary.
another thing, I know it doesnt say in the Bible that we cannot swear, but people tend to look at Christians as good examples or something, so, what kind of example are we setting for others if we're swearing all the time, or even just a little bit.
"Swear Words" are just an extention of our language. Every culture has different words that are impolite to say. You don't call someone an idiot if they don't hold a door for you, right?
I really don't think swear words are pointless either. They certainly do get their point accross. You may tell someone to leave you alone, but maybe they don't get the idea. You get aggrivated, and tell them to "go to hell". I agree that it isn't curteous nor respectful, but the person certainly got their point accross and were understood, right?

It actually does say in the New Testiment that Christians shouldn't swear or say filthy things because we're the example and people look up to us (and no I don't know the reference). I can't remember exactly but it was something like that.
I say "like" a lot. Mostly because I hear it so much. Every once in awhile, a "little" swear word comes through my mouth and I don't even realize it until after. It's horrid.
Although it might get the point across, there are better ways of telling people off without using the f-bomb. Or any other swear word for that matter. Instead of telling them to go to Hell, why not call them a jerk? Or better yet be the bigger person and say nothing at all. If they hurt your feelings, just tell them that they did, you don't have to tell them off. You can be sarcastic if you can't let it go. There really isn't a need for swearing.
And in songs and movies and such, why is there so much of it? They are what influence us most, the media. It's wrong but it's done anyway. Do people just do it to rebell? Do they think it's cool? Oh my.
No one has written rules to anything in life.
If you don't follow the Bible, what other rule book is there (other than that of your faith)?

swear words are an unessesary part of the english language. why even say them? you can get your point across by yelling or something else, you really shouldnt swear at them, its stupid, its pointless. when Billy Graham gets his point across to thousands upon thousands of people does he swear? NO. its simply by how he says and words things and how Jesus is talking through him. Jesus is trying to talk through us everyday, and do you really think he wants us to swear at people? And do you really want people that are interested in the Faith to think that Jesus swears and is almost like the very things they're trying to escape? Is that good witnessing? And when you're arguing with someone do you honestly thing that swearing at them is going to make things all better?
"a soft answer turns away wrath" (im not sure where that verse comes from or if its even accurate but you get the point).
i think its just dumb 2 swear y did soone come up with it anyways
My take on It is that these words were created by man. They were probably first made up by some guys who just started yelling stuff when they were angry or injured. I could use the word Flug when I hurt myself and if it sticks in 20 years it could be concidered swear word. The words that already mean something like "bitch" (female dog), are used in a vugar way so over time they are concidered a swear word. I try not to swaer out of respect for other people. That's my take on it.

Well Guys. I haven't seen any refrences here. So, check these out:
Ephesians 4:29 tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
Also:
." 1 Peter 3:10 declares, "For, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech."
Here's the final bit. This is a great summary of it.
James 3:9-12 "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."
-T
"My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse."
-Proverbs 8:7-8
